Free · self-hosted · runs in Docker

Your household money, on one calm screen.

Skint replaces the spreadsheet you've been squinting at with a fast dashboard for take-home pay, bills and what's left at the end of the month. It runs on your own server, and nothing leaves it.

  • Free to download
  • Runs in Docker
  • Two-step sign-in
  • No bank connection needed

Features

Everything you check on payday, in one place.

Skint keeps the parts of the spreadsheet that mattered and wraps them in a dashboard you'll actually open.

Overview at a glance

Take-home pay, outgoings and what's left, with a donut of where the money goes, the next bills due and a twelve-month outlook.

Every direct debit in one list

Search, filter by category, and switch between monthly and annual totals. Add, edit or remove a bill in a few taps.

Bring your spreadsheet with you

Import your existing Expenditure workbook in one step. Totals are worked out from the figures underneath, so they can't drift out of line.

Made for the household

Give each person a colour and a photo, see how income is split, and let everyone sign in with their own account.

Two-step sign-in

A password, then a six-digit code from any authenticator app. Eight single-use recovery codes are issued at set-up, and trusted browsers stay signed in for a number of days you choose.

Backups you can actually open

Download a full JSON backup, restore it whenever you need to, or export a formatted Excel workbook. Your data is one SQLite file on a Docker volume you control.

The overview

Take-home pay, outgoings and money left over sit at the top. A donut shows where the money goes, the next bills due are listed by date, and a year-ahead chart shows where the balance is heading.

Every bill, one list

All your direct debits with a colour bar for each category. Search, filter, and switch between monthly and annual costs. Adding a bill takes a few seconds.

Set it up your way

Give each person a colour and a photo. Import your spreadsheet, download a JSON backup, or export a formatted Excel workbook. Everything is in Settings.

  • Optional sign-in screen, with a password you choose
  • Two-step sign-in with an authenticator app and eight single-use recovery codes
  • Restrict the app to your own domain names, so raw IP addresses are refused
  • Full JSON backups and an Excel export at any time

Questions

Good to know

Is Skint free?

Yes. Download it and run it on your own machine at no cost. A coffee is always welcome but never required.

Do I need to connect my bank?

No. Skint doesn't connect to any bank. You enter bills yourself or import your spreadsheet, so nothing needs access to your accounts.

Where is my data kept?

In a single SQLite file on a Docker volume on your server. The app makes no outside requests. You can download a full JSON backup at any time.

Can more than one person use it?

Yes. Everyone in the household has their own sign-in and shares the same figures. If someone loses their phone, an admin can reset their two-step sign-in.

What do I need to run it?

A machine that can run Docker and Docker Compose. Put it behind HTTPS if you open it beyond your own network.
